  • Dal’Suhu “Star” Not-Afraid is a Hopi artist from Walpi Village, and a member of the Tobacco Clan. His lineage includes the Crow, Dine’, Lakota, Zuni and Laguna Pueblo. He identifies as a painter, Kachina carver, and a musician. His artistic practices involve actively exploring natural materials and trying new techniques within his paintings. His artistic journey began within his home, nurtured by a family of artisans, and uses Hopi culture and Hopi daily life as the main foundation of his content.

     The materials Not-Afraid works with for his paintings are traditional mineral pigments, acrylic paints, graphite, and paper. For his carvings he uses traditional pigments for the paint and other organic materials such as cottonwood root, feathers, furs, leather, animal-hairs, moss, and shells. Currently he is a Senior at the Institute of American Indian Arts aiming to obtain a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Painting. Not-Afraid’s Katsina carvings are currently represented at Bahti Indian Arts located in Santa Fe, NM.
