"Space Cowgirl" by Camryn Growing Thunder

Space Cowgirl is a reimagining of Jacques-Louis David’s Napoleon Crossing the Alps and an invitation into a Native pop-surrealist world. The work subverts dominant art historical tropes by placing a Native American woman in the role traditionally occupied by Napoleon. By changing the subject in my painting, I am challenging historical narratives of power and conquest. Rather than portraying stoicism or dominance, the subject is depicted as joyful and self-assured. She is grinning, taking up space, and meeting the viewer’s gaze directly. Her presence disrupts expectations, reclaiming agency and through playfulness and confidence. By merging historical reference with contemporary Native identity, Space Cowgirl asserts joy and imagination as radical acts within art history and lived experience.

Artwork Pickup (Local Buyers) Purchased pieces that are not shipped must be picked up by the end of the exhibition on May 8th. Buyers will be notified when their artwork is ready for pickup.

If the artwork is not picked up by May 8th, the buyer will be responsible for shipping and handling costs, or an additional storage fee may apply. The gallery is not responsible for unclaimed artwork after this date.

Shipping Shipping costs are calculated based on the actual carrier rate, plus a handling fee to cover professional packaging and labor. Shipping fees vary depending on the size, weight, fragility, and destination of the artwork.

Estimated domestic shipping ranges:

• Small works (prints, small objects): $8–$20

• Medium works (framed pieces, light sculptures): $20–$60

• Large or fragile works: $60–$150+

Insurance All shipped artwork will include insurance equal to the full sale value. Insurance costs are the responsibility of the buyer.

Shipping Timeline Shipped artwork will be sent within 7–14 business days following the close of the exhibition, unless otherwise arranged. By completing a purchase, the buyer agrees to these shipping and pickup terms.
